Cody Broncs Hosts Rawlins in Home Opener
Written by Cole Havens on September 20, 2019
TONIGHT, THE CODY BRONCS WILL BE PLAYING IN THE FRIENDLY CONFINES OF SPIKE VANNOY STADIUM. FOR THEIR FIRST HOME GAME OF THE SEASON THE BRONCS ARE MATCHED UP WITH RAWLINS, OUT OF THE 3A EAST. CODY HAS OPENED THE SEASON 2-0 BUT A THEME THAT HAS CARRIED OVER FROM BOTH GAMES IS PENALTIES. THE BRONCS COMMITTED OVER 12 PENALTIES LAST WEEK AND GOING INTO TONIGHT HEAD COACH MATT MCFADDEN TOUCHES ON WHAT THE TEAM IS DOING TO CUT DOWN ON INFRACTIONS.
“IT’S SOMETHING THAT YOU WORK ON, IT’S SOMETHING WE PREACH IN PRACTICE, POINT OUT IN PRACTICE, YOU GO THROUGH THE RULE BOOK. THIS IS WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR, THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IT IS. YOU DEFINE IT. AND JUST STAYING ON KIDS. MOST OF THE TIME, PENALTIES MOST OF THE TIME HAPPEN BECAUSE WE GET TIRED AND WE’RE NOT THINKING OR WE’RE NOT MOVING OUR FEET. SO BEING A LITTLE MENTALLY TOUGHER WHEN YOU’RE TIRED, TO FOCUS.”
THE RAWLINS OUTLAWS HAVE ALSO BEGUN THE SEASON 2-0 DEFEATING BOTH EVANSTON AND GREEN RIVER. COACH MCFADDEN PREVIEWS THIS WEEK’S MATCH UP.
“THIS YEAR THEY SPREAD THE BALL OUT, 4 WIDE RECIEVERS. THEY WANT TO RUN THE BALL FIRST AND THEN THEY’VE GOT SOME REAL GOOD RECEIVERS TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF. KIND OF A TYPICAL SPREAD TEAM THAT YOU SEE IN COLLEGE NOW AND EVEN IN THE PROS. ON DEFENSE, THEY’VE GOT SOME BIG KIDS UP FRONT THAT CLOG THE MIDDLE. IT’S GOING TO MAKE RUNNING DIFFICULT, UP THE MIDDLE. THEY’RE A SOLID OPPONENT AND I THINK THESE OPPONENTS CONTINUE TO GET BETTER AND BETTER AND THAT’S GOOD.”
AND IF THIS BRONCS TEAM IS TO START THE SEASON WITH 3 STARIGHT WINS COACH MCFADDEN SAYS IT ALL STARTS WITH THE PLAYERS UP FRONT.
“I’M GOING TO GO BACK TO OFFENSIVE LINE. CHALLENGED THE DEFENSIVE LINE WEEK ONE. I THINK I’M GOING TO CHALLENGE THE OFFENSIVE LINE TO PLAY BY THE RULES, BE PHYSICAL AND WE’VE GOT TO OWN THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. DOESN’T WHO THE RUNNING BACK IS. CONTROLLING THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. THERE’S SOME BIG KIDS IN THE MIDDLE THAT WE GOTTA MOVE AROUND AND SOME REALLY GOOD PLAY-MAKING LINEBACKERS. DEFINITELY OFFENSIVE LINE THIS WEEK.”
IT’S THE HOME OPENER FOR THE CODY BRONCS FRIDAY AS THEY HOST THE RAWLINS OUTLAWS AT SPIKE VANNOY STADIUM. YOU CAN LISTEN TO ALL THE ACTION ON KODI AM 1400 AND 96.7FM WITH PRE-GAME AT 5:40, KICK-OFF AT 6PM.
