A Cody couple was killed Saturday after colliding nearly head-on with an oncoming SUV while on a motorcycle ride on the Belfry Highway.
Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeremy Beck says 57-year-old Tim Zeller and 54-year-old Stacey Zeller of Cody died at the scene of the crash Saturday afternoon on the Belfry Highway. Beck says the Zellers, riding their 2007 Harley Davidson, were traveling northbound on Highway 120, attempted to pass another vehicle, but did not have enough space to avoid a collision with a southbound 2009 Toyota Highlander.
The Zellers were wearing their helmets, but did not survive the crash. The patrol says the driver of the SUV, 70-year-old Cody resident Vaughn Gdula, was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. His wife, Charlotte, was also wearing her seatbelt, and was transported to Cody Regional Health for her injuries.
Driver inattention on the part of Zeller is being investigated as a possible contributing factor.
Funeral services for the Zellers will be held this coming Friday at 10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
The Zellers were the 81st and 82nd fatalities on Wyoming’s roadways this year.
