The Cody Cubs were back in action Wednesday night as they took on their Park County Rivals, Powell, for the first time this season, over in Powell.

It was not meant to be for the Cubs, who were swept on the night, losing game 1, 10-4 and falling in game 2, 9-4.

The Cubs got the first game started with an early 1-0 lead but that’s the only time they would find themselves in front.

Powell answered with a 3-run 1st highlighted by a Trey Stenerson 3-run homer and the Pioneers never trailed after that.

Brock Johnson tossed a gem, going 6 innings while giving up 4 runs on 4 hits but collected 12 strike outs.

Trey Schroeder would be dealt his 2nd loss of the season, giving up a season high 9 runs, 8 earned on 7 hits while lasting just 3.1 innings.

Offensively, the Cubs were led by Wyatt Carlson who clobbered a bases clearing Triple.

In game 2, the Pioneers picked up right where they left off, scoring the games first 3-runs.

Cody would cut the deficit to 3-1 after 4, before Powell tacked on 2 more in the 5th. The Cubs answered again, plating 2 in the 6th but a 4-run 6th by Powell doomed the Cubs.

All of Powell’s 9-runs in game 2, came with 2 outs.

Jacob Gibson got the win for Powell in the 2nd game, going 5 innings while giving up 3 runs on 7 hits.

Trey Thomasson picked up his 2nd loss of the season, going 5.1 innings while giving up 8 runs on 10 hits. Struck out 6.

Jace Jarrett, Jack Schroeder and Dominic Phillips each tallied a pair of hits in game 2 with Phillips hitting his 5th Home Run of the season.

Following all the action the Cubs now sit at 15-15 on the season, 4-2 in conference play.

Powell is now 19-13 overall, 2-0 in league play.

Up Next: It’s a short turnaround for the Cubs who are back in action Thursday afternoon, playing host to the “AA” ranked Laramie Rangers. It’s a double header with first pitch at 1pm.
