Cody Cubs Win 4 of 5 at 24th Annual GVO Memorial Tournament

The Cody Cubs were back in action over the weekend as they travled up North, to the Tresure State, for the 24th annual GVO Memorial Tournament in Three Forks, Montana.

The Cubs would go 4-1 over the weekend picking up wins against the likes of Havre, Lewistown, Dillon and the Bitterroot Red Sox. Their only loss came to the host team Gallatin Valley.

On Friday, Cody beat Havre 5-2 to open the tournament and then fell to GVO in the nightcap 9-8.

Against Havre, Ben Reinker took to the hill and turned in a career performnace. Reinker pitched a complete game, gave up 3 hits, 2 runs while striking out 9.

The Cubs came through in the clutch as Jace Jarrett had 3 RBI base hits in this one.

In game 2, against GVO, it was a back-and-forth affair. Cody took the lead early and then had to battle back multiple times but GVO struck last walking it off with a Sac Fly RBI.

On Saturday, the Cubs would roll offensively, defeating Lewistown 9-1 and Dillon 13-1.

The bats came alive on Saturday and was coupled with fantastic pitching.

Trey Schroeder got the start vs. Lewistown and went 4.2 innings pitched, gave up 6 hits, 1 run and struck out 6. Schroeder picked up his 5th win of the season (leads the team).

Jarrett picked up a pair of hits in this one while scoring 4 runs.

Jack Schroeder, Dominic Phillips and William Duke each had a pair of RBI’s.

Against Dillon, Trey Thomasson would get the nod on the hill. He went 4 innings pitched, gave up 2 hits, 1 run and struck out 7. Thomasson collected his 3rd win of the season.

Versus the Dillon Cubs, Cody would open things up in the 3rd inning scoring 8-runs. They added 5 more in the 4th.

The team collected 9 hits, led by Trey Schroeder and Jarrett who each had 3 a-piece. Jarrett had 6 RBI’s.

Cody closed out the tournament action, Sunday, with an 11-1 win against Bitterroot.

In this one Easton Hartley took to the hill in his Legion “A” debut and picked up the win in his 1st ever start. Hartley pitched 5 innings, gave up 3 hits, 1 run and walked 4.

The Cubs provided plenty of offense for the youngster and showed they could score in many different ways. While Cody only collected 4 hits on the day, they managed to score in every inning.

The Cubs drew 9 walks and were hit by a pitch 7 times.

Trey Schroeder belted his 3rd Home Run of the season in this one.

Following the weekends action the Cubs are now 15-13 on the season and have won 11 of their last 14 games.

Up Next: The Cody Cubs will square off against their Park County Rivals, Powell, for the fist time this season, on Wednesday. The games are in Powell and first pitch is scheduled for 5pm.

On Thursday, the Cubs return home for a non-conference double header as they play host to Laramie. All that action begins at 1 in the afternoon.
