Cody is hosting members of Elks Clubs from around the state this weekend, along with the president of the national organization.
Jerry Fritz, secretary for the local lodge as well as for the statewide organization, says that representatives from 16 lodges will be meeting for the state convention of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks. Fritz says the Grand Exalted Ruler for the nation’s Elks Lodges, Malcolm J. McPherson, will be attending as well, speaking to Wyoming members about the projects that are happening around the country.
Fritz says that 150 Elks members from around the state have registered for the conference, which he notes they are trying to host every two years. Additionally, Wyoming Senator John Barrasso is making a trip to Cody Saturday to address the membership.
Fritz says the Elks club plays an essential role in the Cody community, hosting events for families and children that then benefit those who need help. Additionally, they provide a social gathering space for members of all ages.
The Cody Elks Club currently boasts 890 members, which makes Cody’s organization the largest in the state, eclipsing membership in larger cities like Cheyenne and Casper.
