The Cody Fillies are the Class 4A West Regional Tournament Champions with a 46-37 win over Natrona County.
With the win the Fillies are now Regular Season Conference Champions, Regional Tournament Champions, will be the No.1 seed at this week’s State Tournament and have tied a program record for their 22nd win on the season. The 22nd win ties the 2011 Fillies for most in program history.
Following the Regional Tournament the Fillies will now take part in the Class 4A State Basketball tournament beginning Thursday morning. The Fillies will tip-off against the No. 4 seed out of the East, Campbell County, Thursday at 10:30am.
The Fillies would get the Regional Tournament underway last Thursday opening things up against Jackson. After starting off a bit slow the Fillies would find their groove in the third quarter and pulled away for the 59-28 win.
Against Green River, the Fillies displayed some of the best defense you may ever see. They held the Lady Wolves to just 21 points and Green River failed to score any points in the fourth quarter. The fourth would see a defensive stand by the Fillies that lasted 90 plus seconds and resulted in a Cody takeaway.
And in the championship game, Cody would take on Natrona for the third time this season and would trail early, 8-6. Molly Hays opened the 2nd quarter on a 6-0 run and Cody would sustain that momentum the rest of the game. Cody would be lights out from the charity stripe in the 4th frame, connecting on nine of their 10 free throw attempts.
As for the Broncs, they would go 0-2 at the Regional Tournament losing by a combined two total points. They fell to Jackson by a final of 36-35 and lost to Evanston, 45-44.
The Broncs officially finish the season with an overall record of 6-15.
