THE HIGH SCHOOL GOLF SEASON GOT UNDERWAY LAST FRIDAY AS AREA SCHOOLS GATHERED IN POWELL AND CODY FOR THE PARK COUNTY SHOOTOUT. FINISHING 1ST AT THE TOURNAMENT WAS KELLY WALSH FOLLOWED BY NATRONA AND WORLAND . THE CODY BRONCS WOULD GO ON TO FINISH IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PACK. HEAD COACH OF THE BRONCS JAKE KRAFT TOUCHES ON WHAT HE’S LOOKING FOR EARLY THIS SEASON.

“OUR KIDS COME FROM THE SUMMER SEASON WHERE THEY’RE PLAYING INDIVIDUALLY AND NOW WE’LL COME TOGETHER AS A TEAM AND PUT TOGETHER FIRST TWO 18 HOLE SCORES AS A GROUP. WE’RE OPTIMISTIC WITH OUR GROUP OF BOYS. THEY NOW HAVE A FEW YEARS OF VARSITY EXPERIENCE UNDER THEIR BELT. WE’RE EXCITED FOR OUR BOYS TO PRODUCE HERE IN THE FALL.”

WITH JUST ONE TOURNAMENT UNDER THEIR BELTS MIDWAY THROUGH AUGUST COACH KRAFT TALKS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF GETTING SWINGS IN EARLY IN THE YEAR.

“THE FIRST WEEK OF COMPETITION WE’RE TRYING TO SET A MARK INDIVIDUALLY AND AS A TEAM AND HOPEFULLY BUILD FROM THAT. EACH WEEK WE WANT TO BE A LITTLE BIT BETTER INDIVIDUALLY AND AS A TEAM. I THINK OUR KIDS WILL DO JUST THAT, WILL IMPROVE AS WE GO.”

WHILE EVERY TEAMS GOAL YEAR IN AND YEAR OUT IS TO WIN A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP COACH KRAFT OUTLINES THE SMALL STEPS THE TEAM MUST TAKE IN ORDER TO GET TO STATE.

“I THINK WE WANT TO TRY TO BE, AS A TEAM SCORE, WE WANT TO BE UNDER 350. THAT’S A GOAL THIS YEAR. IF WE COULD BE IN THE TOP 5, TOP 4 AT STATE WE WOULD CONSIDER THAT A DEFINITE SUCCESS

THE CODY BRONCS GOLF SEASON CONTINUES NEXT WEEK AUGUST 22ND AND 23RD WHEN THEY TRAVEL TO SHERIDAN TO TAKE PART IN THE SHERIDAN INVITE. STAY TUNED TO THE BIG HORN RADIO NETWORK FOR UPDATES AND RESULTS.
