Cody Will Get the Worst of Wednesday’s Snow Storm

Written by on October 8, 2019

Cody’s first significant snowfall is expected tomorrow, which will bring wind and bitterly cold temperatures along with the accumulation expected.

Al Ross, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Riverton, says Cody should brace for an fairly intense storm.  Cody will get the worst of it, with temperatures in the teens and 6 to 12 inches of snow.

In addition to the usual safety suggestions during a winter storm, like preparing a winter survival kit and more caution while driving, Ross says everyone should look out for snapping tree limbs. Many trees still have all their leaves, and the weight of snow falling rapidly could cause those branches to break.

Despite the potential severity of this storm, Ross says this is not out of the ordinary for Wyoming.  More typical autumn weather will return by the end of the week.

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Wednesday morning to 6 am Wednesday morning until 6 am Thursday.
