Council Considers Expanded Military Discount at Rec Center

The Paul Stock Aquatics and Recreation Center is considering expanding their military discount to more than just active duty members.

Mike Fink, Recreation Superintendent, says that they’ve been receiving inquiries about offering a 10 percent discount to not only active duty military, but to anyone who has served. Right now, they only offer the discount to active duty members on guest passes, not on annual memberships.

Fink told the City Council last week that offering the discount to a wider group could be an opportunity to generate some new memberships, but it could also cost the Center money.

City Council member Heidi Rasmussen says she brought the question to the Rec Center, after hearing from former military residents in the community.

Rick Manchester, Parks and Recreation Director, says whether or not the discount reaches a broad customer base, it may be important to offer the option simply as a service.

After considering the idea at last week’s work session, the Council decided to put the topic on an upcoming City Council agenda for a vote.
