CWD Found in Hunt Area 118

Written by on November 16, 2017

For the first time, chronic wasting disease has shown up in Deer Hunt Area 118 near Meeteetse.
The Wyoming Game and Fish Wildlife Health Laboratory confirmed the disease in a buck white-tailed deer harvested by a hunter on Nov. 3 near Gooseberry Creek.
Although CWD has never been found in this particular hunt area, Game and Fish says Area 118 is bordered on three sides by hunt areas where the disease has been found previously.
Last year, Game and Fish personnel collected and tested more than 3,350 CWD samples throughout the state, a significant increase from past years.
Game and Fish and the Centers for Disease Control urge hunters not to consume any animal that is obviously ill, or tests positive for CWD.
