Deaver Woman Killed in Fire

Written by on October 19, 2017

A 79 year old woman lost her life last week in a house fire north of Deaver.
The Lovell Chronicle reports that Dorothy Creed, known as Dot, perished during a fire in her home last Tuesday afternoon on Road 5½ north of Deaver. According to fire chief Nick Loftus, when the firefighters arrived just eight minutes after they were dispatched, they found the home completely engulfed in flames.
Loftus told the newspaper that two firefighters attempted to search the home for victims, but were forced out by flames. Once they were safely able to re-enter the building, they found the victim and several pet dogs who were also killed in the blaze.
Big Horn County Sheriff Ken Blackburn identified the victim as a former employee of the Sheriff’s department. He says the cause of the fire is under investigation in a joint effort by the State Fire Marshal’s office, the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, the county coroner and the sheriff’s department.
