Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which means that at Crisis Intervention Services in Park County, they’re in their busy season.
Lisa Peterman, who is the director of Crisis Intervention, says that because of the heightened awareness with public service campaigns directed towards those suffering abuse, victims begin thinking harder about their situation, especially with the holidays looming.
Peterman points out that in the last year, their office helped to file 33 protection orders, put seven families in their shelter in Powell, and served 520 clients, who have suffered abuse in forms ranging from emotional, financial, and mental, as well as physical.
Peterman adds that their office is in need of advocates who can help those in crisis. A training will take place on January 7th for anyone who would wish to volunteer for this type of assistance.
