Embrace Rainy Days: Fun Activities to Brighten Up Your Day!
Written by Logan Phillips on June 23, 2023
It’s no surprise at this point that Wyoming has been experiencing an unusually rainy summer this year. While it may be disappointing for those hoping for days of sunshine, there’s no need to let the rain dampen your spirits. In fact, rainy days can provide the perfect opportunity to engage in a variety of fun and creative activities that will turn gloomy weather into a memorable experience. Here are some exciting, practical, and innovative ideas to make the most of a rainy day:
Create Art:
When you’re stuck indoors during bad weather it can be easy to get bored or depressed. Use this time to explore your artistic abilities. Pick up a paintbrush and canvas, or simply grab a pencil and paper to let your imagination flow. Create a beautiful landscape that captures Wyoming’s natural beauty or experiment with different styles of art. It doesn’t matter if you think you are artistic or not, art can be a good outlet for the rainy-day blues. Plus, if it comes out looking a little too simple or “off” you just call it abstract!
Have Fun Cooking:
Rainy days often call for comfort food. So, while you’re stuck inside, take the opportunity to try out new recipes or whip up some classic favorites. Involve the entire family in the cooking process, turning it into a great bonding experience. Bake some delicious cookies, prepare a warm pot of soup, and create some amazing dishes. Not only does it get you off the couch, but the aroma of freshly cooked food will fill your home, adding a cozy touch to the rainy atmosphere outside.
Solve Crime with True Crime Shows:
For those who enjoy mysteries and true crime stories, a rainy day can be the perfect opportunity to dive into the world of detective work. Grab some popcorn, curl up on the couch, and indulge in binge-watching your favorite true crime shows. Immerse yourself in the world of crime and in thrilling investigations and see if you can crack the case before the big reveal. Who knows, you might discover that you are a greater sleuth than even Sherlock Holmes!
Building a Blanket Fort or Playing Hot Lava:
If you have little ones at home, a rainy day can be transformed into an adventure-filled day of play. Encourage their imagination by building a cozy blanket fort together. Use chairs, sheets, and cushions to construct a secret hideout where they can let their imaginations run wild. Alternatively, turn the living room into a thrilling lava-filled obstacle course where the floor is lava, and they must navigate the furniture without touching the ground. This activity is sure to keep them entertained for hours, and hopefully but not guaranteed not to hear them utter the words, “I’M BORED!”
Listening to 104.1 The Eagle:
Of course, the ultimate way to enjoy the ambiance of a rainy day is with some great music. Tune in to 104.1 The Eagle, The Big Horn Basin’s best station that offers a wide variety of classic hits from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Let the music transport you to a different era, as you sit back, sip a hot cup of tea, and watch the raindrops fall. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover new tunes or revisit old favorites. Plus, the DJ in the morning is a pretty cool dude! If you don’t have a radio, you can always stream the Eagle as well.
So while Wyoming may be experiencing an unusually rainy summer, it doesn’t mean you have to let the weather ruin your days. Embrace the opportunity to engage in fun activities, try new hobbies, and connect with your family. So, let the raindrops fall and make the most of these fun-filled opportunities!
