Fillies Rise, Broncs Falter in Return to Game Action

Written by on January 8, 2020

IT WAS A DOUBLE HEADER OF HIGH SCHOOL HOOPS TUESDAY NIGHT IN CODY, AS THE BRONCS AND FILLIES WELCOMED WORLAND INTO THE SWEITZER GYMNASIUM.

IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE EVENING KENNEDI NIEMANN SCORED 15 OF HER 17 POINTS IN THE FIRST HALF AND CODY HELD ON FOR THE 41-34 VICTORY.

THE FILLIES WOULD JUMP ON THE LADY WARRIORS EARLY, LEADING 12-8 AFTER ONE QUARTER AND EXTENDING THAT LEAD TO 28-13 AT THE HALF.

AFTER BEING DOWN BY AS MANY AS 15 IN THAT FIRST HALF WORLAND BATTLED BACK OUTSCORING CODY IN THE FINAL TWO FRAMES BUT COULDN’T OVERTAKE THE FILLIES. THE FOURTH QUARTER BOILED DOWN TO BALL MOVEMENT AND TIME OF POSSESSION FOR THE FILLIES AS THEY WERE ABLE TO KNOCK DOWN LATE FREE THROWS AND KEPT THE LADY WARRIORS FROM GOING ON ANY KIND OF RUN.

LEADING THE WAY FOR CODY WAS KENNEDI NIEMANN WITH 17 POINTS WHILE TORRIE SCHUTZMAN DROPPED IN 13.

WITH THE WIN CODY IMPROVES TO 3-2 ON THE SEASON AND ARE CURRENTLY RIDING A THREE GAME WIN STREAK.

IN THE SECOND GAME OF THE NIGHT THE WARRIORS JUMPED ALL OVER THE BRONCS LEADING 18-3 AT THE END OF THE 1ST QUARTER AND NEVER LOOKED BACK EN ROUTE TO THE 72-50 WIN.

9 DIFFERENT WARRIORS SCORED IN THE GAME, LED BY RUDY SANFORD’S 22 POINTS. 4 OF THE 5 WARRIOR STARTERS SCORED IN DOUBLE FIGURES. WITH THE WIN WORLAND REMAINS UNDEFEATED WHILE CODY IS IN SEARCH OF THAT ELUSIVE FIRST WIN.

UP NEXT FOR THE CODY BASKETBALL TEAMS IS A REMATCH WITH THEIR PARK COUNTY RIVALS FRIDAY, AS THEY ARE ON THE ROAD TO FACE POWELL.
