Recap from the Kelly Walsh Games here:
Hays’ Career Night Leads Cody Past Kelly Walsh, Broncs Fall Short
Following Molly Hays’ career high 29 points against Kelly Walsh, the Fillies rode that momentum into Saturday’s contest with Riverton. The Fillies showed a patient approach on offense and a defensive swarm that is second to none. The Fillies led early and never looked back as they cruised to their first conference win of the season.
A couple of highlights from that Riverton game, for the Fillies. Kennedi Niemann dropped in a NBA range 3-pointer to beat the halftime buzzer. Her and Hays combined to score 34 of the teams 68 (Hays with 18, Kennedi with 16). Reece Niemann had 11 points, nine in the first quarter. Fillies dropped in 44 first half points.
With the win the Fillies are now 9-0 on the season, 1-0 in conference play.
As for the Broncs, they rebounded well from their defeat against Kelly Walsh as they found themsleves in a tightly contested contest at Riverton. It was back-and-forth the whole way with Cody leading at the half, 23-22. The two teams would be tied up after three quarters at 28 a-piece. And this game would come down to the final minute with Riverton capatalizing on a few Broncs miscues and sealed it with late free throws.
Leading the way for the Broncs was Grady McCarten with 10 points, Kam Niemann added nine, all from the 3-point line and Robby Porter had eight.
With the loss the Broncs are now 2-7 on the season, 0-1 in conference play.
