Written by Cole Havens on December 20, 2019
THE CODY BASKETBALL TEAMS HOSTED PARK COUNTY RIVAL POWELL FRIDAY NIGHT FOR THEIR FIRST HOME GAMES OF THE SEASON AND FINAL GAME OF 2019.
THE FILLIES AND LADY PANTHERS WOULD HIT THE FLOOR FIRST AND CODY DROPPED IN 25 FIRST QUARTER POINTS AND NEVER LOOKED BACK EN ROUTE TO THE 59-27 VICTORY.
THE FILLIES FEATURED A BALANCED SCORING ATTACK AS 10 DIFFERENT GIRLS SCORED A BASKET AND WERE LED BY TORRIE SCHUTZMAN WHO DROPPED IN 14 POINTS AND MADE FOUR 3-POINTERS. TEAGAN THOMPSON AND ALLY SCHROEDER ADDED 8.
WITH THE WIN THE FILLIES IMPROVE TO 2-2 ON THE SEASON.
IN THE NIGHTCAP THE BRONCS AND PANTHER DID BATTLE IN WHAT PROVED TO BE AN EARLY ENTRY FOR GAME OF THE YEAR. THE PANTHERS OPENED UP THE GAME WITH THE LEAD BUT MIDWAY THROUGH THE SECOND QUARTER CODY GRABBED CONTROL AND LED AT THE HALF, 29-26. THE BRONCS FOUND THEMSELVES UP BY SEVEN MIDWAY THROUGH THE THIRD QUARTER BUT THANKS TO A 7-0 RUN POWELL AND CODY WERE TIED AT THE END OF 3. THE BRONCS AND THE PANTHERS WOULD TRADE BUCKETS ALL THE WAY TO THE FINAL BUZZER.
WITH NINE SECONDS ON THE CLOCK NIC TALICH WOULD STEAL THE IN-BOUNDS PASS, WITH THE BRONCS DOWN ONE, AND THEY HAD TWO GOOD LOOKS AT THE HOOP TO BEAT THE BUZZER BUT COULDN’T FIND THE BOTTOM OF THE NET, LOSING IN DEVASTATING FASHION TO POWELL 62-61.
WITH THE LOSS CODY FALLS TO 0-4 AND LEADING THE WAY FOR THE BRONCS WAS DUNCAN RADAKOVICH WITH 16 POINTS. LUKE TALICH PITCHED IN 13 OFF THE BENCH, COY NOVAKOVIC AND CALEB PRYOR ADDED 11 A PIECE.
UP NEXT FOR THE CODY BASKETBALL TEAMS: THEY WILL BE OFF FOR A WEEK DUE TO THE CHRISTMAS BREAK AND THEN RETURN TO ACTION TUESDAY JANUARY 7TH WHEN THEY HOST WORLAND.
