Firefighters Wrapping Up in Bighorns

Written by on August 12, 2019

Firefighters in the Bighorn National Forest were wrapping up at two fire locations this weekend.

The Lick Creek Fire on the Bighorn National Forest was 70% contained as of Friday, with a portion of the fire remaining in an area inaccessible to firefighters – there are safety concerns due to snags and steep terrain.  The fire is being checked periodically to ensure any needed actions take place.  With a potential for fire activity to increase still lingering, the closure orders on Forest Road 147 and Trail 76 will remain in effect until significant moisture is received on the fire.

The Cubb Creek Cabin fire is 100% contained and controlled, and will likely be declared out in the next few days.

Fire Danger on the Bighorn National Forest is at Moderate, and no fire restrictions are in place.  While it’s been a slower fire season throughout the region, officials are asking residents and visitors to please continue to make sure you are careful with fire and put your campfires out.  They say that typically, 60% of fire starts are human caused.
