Food Service Program Free to All Kids

Kids from five to 18 are entitled to free meals this summer – no matter their income or their residency.
Park County School District 6 is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Gen Sheets, nutrition director for the district, says meals will be provided to all children without charge. She says there are no restrictions – if a child looks 18, they’ll get served; if they’re just passing through as visitors to Cody, they won’t be turned away either.
Sheets says that there will be four locations this year where the free meals will be served – Breakfast and lunch will be at the Paul Stock Aquatics and Recreation Center Monday through Friday through the middle of August, and at Sunset Elementary during the summer school schedule from May 29-June 28th. Lunch will be served at Youth Clubs of Park County in Cody May 29th-August 17th, and at a new location this year – Mentock Park.
Sheets says that the food service program began when administrators became concerned about the backwards direction that teachers observe in some students after they returned from summer vacation, and felt that poor nutrition may contribute.
