Game and Fish Banning Open Fires During Eclipse Weekend

Written by on August 17, 2017

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is banning open fires on all Game and Fish Commission owned and administered lands to prevent wildfires and protect the important habitat during the eclipse weekend.
Officials say that many fire bans were already in place across the state, but with the added use of these lands for the eclipse viewing the ban was instituted statewide.
Additionally, Stage 1 fire restrictions are now in effect for the Bridger-Teton National Forest, Grand Teton National Park, Bureau of Land Management High Desert District and the National Elk Refuge.
Mike Johnston, assistant fire management officer for the Bridger-Teton National Forest, says the restrictions are based in part on the current high fire danger and predictions of continued warm and dry weather. Other factors include current regional and national fire activity, which have stretched existing firefighting resources, as well as increased visitation to the area during the upcoming total solar eclipse.
