Grizzly Cub Killed in Vehicle Collision

Written by on June 18, 2018

A grizzly bear cub was killed in a vehicle collision on the lower South Fork earlier this month.
The first week of June, a resident reported to the Game and Fish department that he had accidentally hit a young grizzly with his vehicle after dark. Dusty Lasseter, bear coordinator for the Game and Fish Department, says that the case is still under investigation.

Lasseter says because the case is still under investigation, he was unable to confirm whether or not the bear was one of the cubs orphaned last month, as the DNA results are not in yet.
Lasseter does say that there are a lot of bears in the ecosystem right now, and many have been visible. He says that part of the reason is due to the high snowpack in the mountains, which have driven the animals down to lower elevations.
