“Horsin’ Around” Celebrates Annual Sale Downtown

Written by on May 10, 2019

The street in front of the Irma Hotel will temporarily become a horse arena this weekend as potential buyers from all over the region gather for what has been referred to as the “prom of the horse sales.”

The Cody Country Horse Sale is now in its 21st year, and will be held Saturday on 12th Street next to the Irma. Kay Clark of the Clark Management Co., the company that stages the sale, told the Cowboy State Daily that more than 100 horses are expected to be offered for sale on Saturday and those bringing horses to sell are urged to bring stock that is ready to ride.

But Saturday’s sale is only part of the festivities this weekend. Prior to the event in Cody, there will be a ranch horse competition at the Clarks’ property in Ralston. And Teresa Muhic with the Cody Events Committee says that both before and after the sale at 1 p.m., the Committee has planned games, competitions and other attractions in cooperation with the downtown businesses.

The Chamber’s “Horsin’ Around” events on Saturday will begin around 11 a.m. and wrap up around 3, culminating with a street dance right after the horse sale. Live streaming for the horse sale will be provided via the Cody Horse Sale Facebook page, and the full catalog of horses can be found on the website Cody Horse Sale.com
