Hot Springs County Grizzly Bear Relocated West of Cody

Written by on August 18, 2023

Wyoming Game and Fish Department captured and relocated an adult male grizzly bear on Aug. 15 after consulting with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.

The bear was captured for livestock depredation northwest of Thermopolis on private land and was relocated to the Five Mile Creek drainage approximately 41 miles west of Cody.

Bear relocations are done in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations and the Wyoming Game and Fish is required to let the public know when a bear is relocated.

This is the second bear relocated in the Big Horn Basin this month due to livestock depredation.

Relocation is a management tool used with problematic bears in an effort to minimize issues with bears and humans.
