June Fire Flares Up

Written by on August 29, 2017

The June Fire isn’t over just yet.
The fire, located between Pahaska and Wapiti on the North Fork Highway west of Cody, began producing smoke again over the weekend due to warmer, drier weather. Shoshone National Forest officials say that a helicopter that has been staged in Worland for emergency response purposes was ordered in to drop water on the fire, as it is active in very steep terrain, inaccessible to firefighters.
Fire managers say that the helicopter and its crew will be working in the vicinity of the Wapiti Ranger Station for the next several days, so visitors and residents on the North Fork are asked to use caution as they travel through the area.
