Local Children “Shopped With a Cop” Yesterday
Written by Andrew-Rossi on December 12, 2017
Twenty law enforcement officers from all over the Big Horn Basin descended on Wal-Mart yesterday afternoon – but not because of any criminal activity.
These twenty officers were participating in the “Shop with a Cop” program at Cody’s Walmart. According to a release from the Park County Sheriff’s Office, the event provides a fun filled day of shopping for children in need throughout the basin, while at the same time creating a positive relationship between the child and law enforcement that hopefully will last throughout their lives.
Officers from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, Park County and Big Horn County Sheriff’s departments, and police officers from Cody, Powell and Lovell participated in the event, which was organized by Trooper Rodney Miears of the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
Officers were paired with a child selected by their respective school districts. Using donations from Walmart and some private donors, the children were taken on a Christmas shopping spree, shopping for their family as well as themselves.
After the shopping, the children and their “partner for the day” returned to the Cody Law Enforcement Center, where they wrapped their gifts and enjoyed a pizza party provided by Papa Murphy’s.
