TODAY I CONTINUE MY SENIOR SPOTLIGHT SERIES LOOKING AT THE SENIORS OF CODY HIGH SCHOOL WHO HAD THEIR CAREERS CUT SHORT DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. AND NOW A LOOK AT MADDY ICENOGLE. MADDY WAS A MEMBER OF BOTH THE CODY FILLIES SOCCER AND TENNIS TEAMS. SHE SHARES WHAT IT WAS LIKE PLAYING FOR CODY HIGH SCHOOL.
“I WOULDN’T TRADE ANY, ANY OF IT FOR ANYTHING. IT WAS GREAT. COACHES ARE AMAZING AND EVERY TEAM IS JUST LIKE ANOTHER FAMILY OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL.”
MADDY IS A TWO-TIME ALL-STATE TENNIS PLAYER AS A FILLY. HER & SIMONA WAMBEKE WON #1 DOUBLES STATE CHAMPIONSHIP THIS YEAR, THEIR SECOND STRAIGHT, GIVING THEM HONORS AS BEING THE BEST GIRLS DOUBLES TEAM IN WYOMING TWO STRAIGHT YEARS. THIS YEAR THE SENIOR DUO ONLY LOST ONE SET ALL YEAR WINNING ALL 19 OF THEIR MATCHES.
“IT WAS GREAT. I MEAN, WE WERE ABLE TO DO WHATEVER WE SET OUT TO DO AND IT WAS JUST A GREAT EXPERIENCE.”
AS FOR WHAT’S NEXT FOR MADDY, SHE PLANS TO ATTEND THE UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING NEXT FALL, PURSUING A DEGREE IN PSYCHOLOGY.
“YEAH, I’M GOING TO HEAD DOWN TO LARAMIE, TO THE UNIVERSITY THERE, AT LEAST FOR THE FIRST FOUR YEARS. LEANING TOWARDS MAJORING IN PSYCHOLOGY. I JUST LIKE, WANT TO FIGURE OUT HOW THE MIND WORKS AND TRY TO UNDERSTAND HOW SOME MINDS WORK DIFFERENTLY AND HELP PEOPLE WHO NEED IT.”
MADDY GOES ON TO SHARE HER FAVORITE MEMORIES OF PLAYING FOR CODY HIGH SCHOOL.
“ANY TRIP REALLY WITH ANY SPORT IS JUST SO FUN. WE ALWAYS LAUGH AND GOOF OFF NO MATTER WHERE WE’RE GOING OR WHAT THE OUTCOME IS. THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS FROM BOTH SPORTS. THERE’S TO MANY MEMORIES TO COUNT BUT YEAH, THERE’S A LOT THAT I DEFINITELY WON’T FORGET.”
AND SHE ADDS WHAT ADVICE SHE WOULD GIVE TO YOUNGER ATHLETES.
“WORK HARD AND HAVE FUN AND DON’T TAKE ANYTHING FOR GRANTED. PLAY ANY MATCH OR GAME LIKE IT’S YOUR LAST (CHUCKLES) IT COULD BE.”
