Mental Health Event Gathers Community

The Cody community gathered this weekend to raise awareness for mental health.
The fourth annual Beck Lake Challenge took place on Saturday morning, and 250 people got outside to enjoy the bright sunshine while walking, biking, strolling or running around the Markham and New Cody reservoirs.
The event was put on by the Cody Medical Foundation, which helps to fund various programs in the community that support and promote mental and physical health. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, one in five adults in the United States experiences mental illness each year, and Theresa Donley, who is on the committee that put together the event, says mental illness crosses a broad range of diagnoses.
Meghan Brady with the Foundation says that the purpose of the event was to bring the issue of mental illness to light in a safe, supportive environment.
The Cody Medical Foundation has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars over the last 60 years to support the local hospital district. Money raised goes to fund medical buildings, loans, scholarships, and education, as well as public service projects and organizations.
