Mysterious Grave Near Cody Identified

The Case of the Mysterious Grave has been closed.

In September, a property owner in the Polecat Bench area discovered the grave on his property. There was only a metal cross at the site. The Park County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the grave and took to social media to find anyone with information. Cadaver dogs were brought to the scene and indicated human remains may have been buried there.

The investigation concluded that the grave is occupied – but not by a person. After discovering and reaching out to the parties responsible for the grave, they confirmed that it is the grave of a beloved family pet. In order to preserve their privacy, they remain anonymous and are taking some of their information “to the grave.”

The information provided by everyone who responded to the call was instrumental in closing the investigation. The Park County Sheriff’s Office extends their thanks and gratitude.
