The Park County Coroner has released the name of the victim of the fatal crash with a beet truck on Tuesday.
According to an article in the Powell Tribune, the driver of the 1993 Mazda that rear-ended the beet truck at high speed Tuesday morning was 20-year-old Ray Carpenter. Highway Patrol Lieutenant Lee Pence told the Tribune that Carpenter’s truck showed no signs of braking before it hit the rear driver’s side wheels of the 1979 International as it was turning south into the beet dump outside Ralston.
Pence said this is the second rear-end crash involving a beet truck between Powell and Cody in the past month, and said that this incident serves as a reminder to all drivers that the beet trucks are often traveling much slower than the posted speed limits, so drive with caution.
