New CHS Club Promotes Inclusivity

Written by on January 3, 2019

A new club has been formed at Cody High School, which organizers say they hope will promote inclusivity for all students.
The Cody School Board last month approved the formation of the Prism Club, which is a Gay Straight Alliance group. The Cody Enterprise reports that the club was informally started as a gathering of students in sponsor teacher Amy Gerber’s classroom.
The organization of the club was approved by School District 6 trustees in a consent agenda action item in December. Trustee Tom Keegan commented later in the meeting on the courage of the young people who are leading the group.
In the form that was submitted in order to create the club, organizers noted that they want to provide a safe and supportive space for both straight and LGBTQ students, and hope to reduce bullying and help students find a place where they can belong.
The article also points out that there are Gay Straight Alliance clubs at both Powell High School and Northwest College.
