No Cause of Death Determined for Body Found in Basin

Written by on December 14, 2017

Police have not yet determined the cause of death for a man who was discovered in the yard of a Basin residence Monday afternoon.
About 3:30 in the afternoon of December 11th, Officers from the Basin Police Department and Deputies from the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address in the 600 block of West A Street in Basin, after the report of an unattended death. The homeowner at that residence discovered the body of a man lying in the yard next to the garage, near the alleyway.
Law Enforcement Officers along with the County Coroner thoroughly examined the scene, but after initial investigation, the cause of death has yet to be determined. That’s according to Chief of Police Chris Kampbell, who said that as unusual as this incident is, there does not appear to be any obvious signs of foul play.
In a news release, Kampbell said that the death could have been natural, environmental, or for some other reason, but until an autopsy is performed, their office does not know the cause. However, the coroner determined that the time of death was approximately 12 to 15 hours before the body was discovered.
The name of the deceased has not been released yet, pending notification of next of kin.
