Northwest College Votes to Reimburse Students for Residence and Meal Plans
Written by Andrew-Rossi on March 23, 2020
Northwest College takes steps to provide for the financial stability of its students.
Last Thursday, the NWC Board of Trustees meet in an emergency meeting to discuss offering refunds to students who have paid for residence halls and meal plans, given the current closure of the campus and the uncertainty of when – or even if – the college will reopen before the end of the current semester. Several colleges in Wyoming, including, Laramie County Community College, Western Wyoming College, Central Wyoming College, and Northern Wyoming Community College District have either discussed or already passed similar measures. The total amount for residence hall and meal plan refunds is estimated at $395,000.
The Board of Trustees voted in favor of the refunds. But, because of the board’s bylaws, that action can only become permanent if it is considered and acted upon at an open public meeting. That special public board meeting will be held today, March 23, at 7:00 p.m. Naturally, this meeting will not be conducted in person in order to reduce the potential contamination and spread of COVID-19. The meeting will be held via Zoom and can be attended by the public.
