“Nutcracker” Celebrates 20 Years

Written by on December 15, 2017

A beloved tradition in Cody is celebrating its 20th year this weekend.
The Rocky Mountain Dance Theatre’s production of “The Nutcracker” will take place this Saturday and Sunday at the Wynona Thompson Auditorium, featuring around 100 local performers, who have been practicing for months.
Elizabeth Fernandez is the director and producer of the production, which first took the stage in 1998. Fernandez says that although the basic story remains the same each year, she makes subtle changes annually that sets each performance apart from the others.

Playing Clara and the Sugar Plum Fairy is Cody High School Senior Caitlyn Murray – this is her second time playing the role. She will be accompanied by professional dancers from the Susan Farrell Company of Washington D.C. Other featured performers include senior John Williams as the Rat King, and CHS graduate Tyler Wilde as the Nutcracker.
Fernandez points out that the production would not have its professional look without technicians who travel for hundreds of miles to create the sets and costumes and design the lights, as is the case for set designer Casey Kearns and Charles Houghton.

While most of the seats have already been sold, some tickets are still available at The Thistle, or online at https://rockymountaindancetheatre.tix.com/
