THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS OPENED REGION IX PLAY, WEDNESDAY NIGHT, WELCOMING LARAMIE COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE TO THE CABRE GYM. IT WAS A DOUBLE HEADER OF ACTION.
IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE EVENING THE LADY TRAPPERS WERE HELD TO NO MADE FIELD GOALS OVER THE FINAL 6 MINUTES AND COULDN’T OVERCOME LARAMIE’S 35 MADE FREE THROWS, DROPPING THE CONTEST 77-73. LARAMIE COUNTY MADE MORE FREE THROWS, 35, THAN NORTHWEST COLLEGE SHOT, 27.
LEADING THE WAY FOR NWC WAS ADELA SMUTNA WITH 18 POINTS AND 8 REBOUNDS. SAMIYA WORRELL ADDED 17 WHILE TESS HENRY HAD 13.
IN THE NIGHTCAP IT WAS ANOTHER CLOSE ONE, BOTH TEAMS GOING BACK-AND-FORTH UNTIL THE FINAL BUZZER BUT IT WAS NOT MEANT TO BE FOR THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE MEN AS THEY CAME UP SHORT LOSING 70-68. THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE IN THE GAME WAS THAT LARAMIE COUNTY MADE 13 FREE THROWS WHILE NWC HAD JUST 13 TOTAL ATTEMPTS AT THE CHARITY STRIPE.
LEADING THE WAY WAS JEROME MABRY WITH 16 POINTS. JAHQUEL GOSS ADDED 13 AND MAX DEHON HAD 12 FOR THE TRAPPERS.
UP NEXT FOR THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS, THEY ARE BACK HOME SATURDAY JANUARY 11TH HOSTING EASTERN WYOMING. WOMEN TIP-OFF AT 2PM WITH THE MEN TO FOLLOW AT 4PM.
