NWC Preliminary Enrollment Down

Written by on August 31, 2017

The 2017-2018 school year at Northwest College has started, although enrollment numbers are not what they have been in the past.
Mark Kitchen, Vice President for College Relations at Northwest, says that enrollment numbers are still very preliminary, but he can say there are fewer full time equivalent students than last year. However, those numbers can change.

Kitchen says that they will have a better sense of enrollment after early September deadlines to add and drop classes. But according to preliminary information from the other six colleges, enrollment is either flat or down statewide. The final fall enrollment report won’t be available until after February.
Additionally, due to budget cuts, three programs were eliminated last year, and there are twenty fewer staff positions than in previous years. However, Kitchen says the beginning of the school year is generally an invigorating and positive time.

The school year kicked off at Northwest last week with activities and interactions for new students; and a “Paint the Town Red” event that integrated the student body with the community of Powell.
