THE COLLEGE BASKETBALL SEASON IS STARTING TO HEAT UP. FOR THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM, THEY HAVE BEEN ROAD WARRIORS AS OF LATE, PLAYING THEIR LAST FIVE GAMES AWAY FROM HOME. MOST RECENTLY THEY PLAYED THREE GAMES IN FOUR DAYS AND BUCKED A THREE GAME LOSING SKID MONDAY VS. ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE JV. WITH TWO HOME GAMES UPCOMING THIS WEEKEND HEAD COACH CAMDEN LEVETT GIVES AN OVERALL IMPRESSION OF THE TEAMS PLAY EARLY ON.

“YEAH, I KIND OF WANT US TO JUST SETTLE IN. BEEN ROAD WARRIORS. WE’VE LEARNED, WE’VE BEEN TESTED, YOU KNOW EARLY IN THE YEAR, THOSE ROAD GAMES.DEFINITELY HAS BEEN A LEARNING EXPERIENCE. WE HAVE A LOT OF FRESHMEN ON OUR TEAM PLAYING BIG MINUTES, SO I THINK WE’VE GOT TO PUT IT ALL TOGETHER AND LEARN FROM OUR ROAD GAMES WE’VE HAD. YOU KNOW WE HAVE ALREADY LOST TWO GAMES IN OVERTIME SO WE’RE RIGHT THERE. WE JUST AREN’T MAKING ENOUGH PLAYS TO GET OVER THE HUMP.”

IT’S BEEN A RESPECTABLE START TO THE SEASON FOR THE LADY TRAPPERS WHO SIT AT 5-6 ON THE YEAR. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE ONLY ONE WIN IN THEIR LAST FOUR GAMES AND COACH LEVETT ADDRESSES SOME OF THE HARDSHIPS FACED SO FAR.

“THE GAME OF BASKETBALL IS A GAME OF RUNS. YOU KNOW WE’VE HAD OUR HIGHS AND LOWS JUST LIKE ANY TEAM BUT RIGHT NOW WHEN WE GET IN A LITTLE FUNK, AND USUALLY IT’S BEEN THE THIRD QUARTER FOR US, WE REALLY HIT A LOW. WE’VE GOTTA KIND OF FIGHT THROUGH THAT, MAYBE BURN ALL MY TIMEOUTS IN THE THIRD QUARTER, I DON’T KNOW, WHATEVER IT TAKES. BUT JUST RIDING THE WAVES A LITTLE BIT BETTER AND HANDLING ADVERSITY.”

WITH THE ROAD SWING IN THE BOOKS THE LADY TRAPPERS NOW GET SET TO PLAY SIX OF THEIR NEXT 8 GAMES ON THEIR HOME COURT. WITH THE FIRST BANK SHOOTOUT TAKING PLACE THIS WEEKEND COACH LEVETT SUMS UP WHAT THE TEAM NEEDS TO FOCUS ON BEING BACK HOME.

“I THINK IT’S JUST COMING TOGETHER AND PLAYING AS A TEAM. YOU KNOW WE’VE SEEN A LOT OF DIFFERENT DEFENSES, A LOT OF DIFFERENT ZONES, PRESSES, YOU NAME IT. EVERYTHING WE DO IN NON-CONFERENCE IS TO GET US READY FOR OUR CONFERENCE SCHEDULE WHICH STARTS IN JANUARY. REALLY I JUST WANT US TO STAY HEALTHY, SO FAR SO GOOD. SO YEAH JUST TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS AT HOME AND MAKE THE PLAYS WE’RE NOT MAKING OUT ON THE ROADS AND GET THEM DONE AT HOME.”

THE LADY TRAPPERS WILL LOOK TO STACK SOME WINS TOGETHER AND IT ALL STARTS THIS WEEKEND AGAINST MILES AND DAWSON COMMUNITY COLLEGES. COACH LEVETT ON HOW THIS TEAM CAN COME AWAY VICTORIOUS

“THESE AR BOTH OPPONENTS WE’VE PLAYED BEFORE. YOU KNOW DAWSON WAS A TOUGH LOSS IN OVERTIME, AND THEM MILES REALLY TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS AND GOT TO THE FREE THROW LINE AGAINST US AT THERE PLACE. SO WE GOT TO DO A LITTLE LESS FOULING, STAY AGGRESSIVE WHILE DOING THAT AND PUT THE BALL IN THE HOLE.”

YOU CAN CATCH BOTH THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS BACK IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND HOSTING THE FIRST BANK SHOOTOUT TOURNAMENT. EVERYTHING GETS UNDERWAY FRIDAY WHEN BOTH TEAMS HOST MILES COMMUNITY COLLEGE FRIDAY NIGHT WITH THE WOMEN TIPPING-OFF AT 5:30PM, FOLLOWED BY THE MEN AT 7:30. ON SATURDAY THEY TAKE ON DAWSON COMMUNITY COLLEGE WITH THE WOMEN BEGINNING AT 2PM FOLLOWED BY THE MEN AT 4 IN THE AFTERNOON.
