NWC Women’s Basketball to Host Four Games in Four Days

Written by on November 13, 2019

THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM OPENED THE SEASON ON THE ROAD GOING 1-2 AND NOW THEY WILL GET SET FOR FOUR GAMES AT HOME OVER THE NEXT FOUR DAYS. FOR THE LADY TRAPPERS, AND HEAD COACH CAMDEN LEVETT, THE EARLY SEASON ROAD SWING TAUGHT THIS GROUP A LOT ABOUT WHO THEY ARE AS A TEAM AND ONE OF THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS GROUP IS THE WAY THEY CONTINUED TO FIGHT. COACH LEVETT GIVES AN OVERVIEW OF LAST WEEKEND’S CONTESTS.

“WE KIND OF FOUND OUT MORE ABOUT OURSELVES AND OUR TOUGHNESS AND WHAT WE NEED TO WORK ON. STARTED THE SEASON WITH A WIN. THAT FELT REALLY GOOD. DIDN’T HAVE A LONG TIME TO ENJOY IT. SO WE HAD TO GET BACK TO WORK THE NEXT DAY IN GLENDIVE. WE PLAYED DAWSON. PHYSICAL, ATHLETIC TEAM WITH GOOD GUARD PLAY AND WE TOOK THEM TO OVERTIME AND CAME UP SHORT THERE. COULDN’T HANG OUR HEADS FOR LONG. WE HAD MILES WHICH IS PROBABLY THE BEST TEAM OUT OF THE THREE. WE HAD A TWO POINT LEAD AT HALF AND CAME UP SHORT IN THAT ONE AS WELL.”

NOW THE LADY TRAPPERS GET SET FOR THEIR FIRST HOME STAND OF THE SEASON. WITH JUST THREE DAYS OF REST BETWEEN GAMES IT’S NOT A LOT OF TIME TO PREPARE. COACH LEVETT ON WHAT HE’S LOOKING FOR FROM THE TEAM WITH THE NEXT FOUR GAMES ON THEIR HOME COURT.

“THE BIGGEST THING IS JUST THE ADJUSTMENTS WE NEED TO WORK ON. WE DIDN’T HAVE TIME TO DO THAT ON THE ROAD. SO NOW IT’S TIME TO REALLY FOCUS IN. WE ONLY HAVE A COUPLE PRACTICES AND A LOT OF GAMES SO WE GOTTA LEARN ON THE FLY AND CORRECT THOSE THINGS. I THINK WE’RE EXCITED TO PLAY IN FRONT OF THE HOME CROWD.”

AND SPEAKING OF THE TEAMS ADJUSTMENTS, COACH LEVETT CHRONICLES WHAT THEY ARE WORKING ON THIS WEEK.

“WE’VE GOTTA BE QUICKER ON OUR DEFENSIVE SWITCHES, STOPPING THE BALL BEFORE THEY GET DEEP IN THE PAINT, FORCE UP SHOTS. WE’VE GOT TO SHOW OUR HANDS MORE. ON DEFENSE WE’VE GOTTA BE QUICKER TO SLIDE OVER TO HELP. OFFENSIVELY, WE’VE GOTTA REALIZE WE HAVE SOME GOOD PLAYERS ON THIS TEAM. IF WE GET THEM IN THE RIGHT SPOTS TO SCORE BASKETS WE’VE GOT TO HIT THOSE, WHETHER IT’S INSIDE OUT WITH OUR POST PLAY OR A GUARD DRIVING IT, IF WE MAKE THOSE KICKS IT’S TIME TO KNOCK DOWN THOSE THREES.”

COACH LEVETT SAYS THE LADY TRAPPERS MUST BRING THE ENERGY AND SHAKE OFF THEIR PREVIOUS LOSSES AND IS LOOKING FOR THE ENTIRE TEAM TO TAKE ANOTHER STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

“INDIVIDUALLY, I THINK EVERYONE CHIPPED IN AT SOME POINT. SO WE’RE PRETTY BALANCED. YOU KNOW THE GAME WE DID WIN WE HAD FOUR GIRLS IN DOUBLE FIGURES. REALLY I THINK WITH THIS TEAM IT COULD BE ANY GIRL ANY GIVEN NIGHT. I’M JUST COLLECTIVELY AS A TEAM, WE’VE GOT TO START MAKING SHOTS.”

BOTH THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS HAVE HOME GAMES ALL WEEK LONG. UP FIRST IS A HOME CONTEST WEDNESDAY VS. ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE JV WITH THE WOMEN AT 5:30 FOLLOWED BY THE MEN AT 7:30. ON FRIDAY BOTH TEAMS HOST THE BIG HORN FEDERAL SHOOTOUT VS. BISMARCK STATE COLLEGE. AGAIN THE WOMEN PLAY AT 5:30 WITH THE MEN TO FOLLOW.

THEN ON SATURDAY NORTHWEST COLLEGE WILL HOST AN ALL-STAR EVENT, AS A TEAM OF ALL-STARS AND ALUMNI COME IN FROM UTAH AND WYOMING TO PLAY AT THE CABRE GYMNASIUM. ALL THAT ACTION GETS UNDERWAY AT 11AM.
