NWC Women’s Soccer Team Beginning to Hit their Stride

Written by on October 1, 2019

THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER PROGRAM IS HALFWAY THROUGH THE SEASON AND CURRENTLY SPORTS A 3-8 OVERALL RECORD. HOWEVER, THE RECORD DOESN’T INDICATE JUST HOW WELL THIS TEAM HAS GROWN AND IMPROVED AS THE YEAR HAS GONE ON. FROM GOING WINLESS FOR TWO YEARS IN A ROW TO WINNING THEIR FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON THIS TEAM HAS SHOWED FIGHT AND DETERMINATION ALL YEAR LONG AND NOW HAS A CHANCE TO PLAY FOR THE PLAYOFFS. HEAD COACH AARON MILLER TALKS ABOUT THE IMPROVEMENT THAT HAS BEEN MADE AND THE NEXT STEP THIS TEAM NEEDS TO TAKE.

“THEY NEED TO COME OUT AND MENTALLY BE READY FOR BIGGER CHALLENGES. AT THIS MIDPOINT IN THE SEASON THEY’RE STARTING TO TURN THE CORNER AND STARTING BRING IT A LITTLE BIT MORE EACH AND EVERY MATCH. THAT’S BEEN THE BIGGEST THING AND ALONG WITH THAT IS CHANGING THE CULTURE AND THE ATTITUDE, LETTING THEM KNOW THEY CAN BE COMPETITIVE AND THEY CAN HAVE A SPOT IN REGION 9. CERTAINLY DOWN THE ROAD WE WANT TO BUILD FOR FUTURE SEASONS BUT ITS BEEN GOOD TO SEE THE TURNAROUND THE LAST MONTH AND A HALF WITH THIS GROUP.”

THE TRAPPERS HAVE PLAYED 5 OF THEIR LAST 7 GAMES ON THE ROAD AND THIS WEEKEND THEY ARE ON THE ROAD AGAIN VS. WELL KNOWN OPPONENTS IN GILLETTE AND SHERIDAN. COACH MILLER PREVIEWS THIS WEEKEND’S CONTESTS

“AS WE ROLL INTO GILLETTE WE’VE PLAYED THEM BEFORE AT THEIR FIELD SO WE HAVE A BETTER IDEA AND EXPECTATION FOR THAT MATCH. AND SHERIDAN, YOU KNOW THERE’S A LOT OF GIRLS THAT HAVE PLAYED WITH EACH OTHER OR AGAINST SOME OF THESE GIRLS, LOCAL IN STATE WYOMING GIRLS BEFORE SO THEY HAVE A LOT OF FAMILIARITY. WE’RE JUST GOING TO DO EVERYTHING THAT WE NEED TO PREPARE THEM IN TERMS OF TACTICS, WATCHING FILM, STUFF LIKE THAT.”

AND WHILE MOST TEAMS TAKE THINGS ONE GAME AT A TIME THIS GROUP KNOWS WITH MORE CONSISTENT PLAY THEY ARE JUST A FEW WINS AWAY FROM CLINCHING A SPOT IN THE PLAYOFFS.

“WE’VE GOT FIVE GAMES LEFT. I THINK IF WE WIN THREE OF THOSE WE SHOULD HAVE A PLAYOFF SPOT. THE CHALLENGES HERE THIS WEEKEND, AGAIN ANOTHER ROAD TRIP, AND BEING ABLE TO ADAPT TO THE ENVIRONMENT QUICKLY AND BEING ABLE TO BE CONSISTENT ON BOTH DAYS IS THE BIG KEY. IF WE COULD JUST PUT TWO GAMES TOGETHER ON THE WEEKEND AND BE COMPETITIVE AND TRY TO LOOK FOR THOSE RESULTS THAT WE NEED.”

THE NORTHWEST COLLEGE WOMEN’S SOCCER TEAM IS ON THE ROAD THIS WEEKEND WITH MATCH-UPS VS GILLETTE AND SHERIDAN COLLEGE. THEY TAKE ON GILLETTE FRIDAY AT 1:30PM AND PLAY SHERIDAN SATURDAY AT 1PM.
