The Park County Sheriff’s Office is warning parents to know where sex offenders live before trick-or-treating on Halloween.
There are 47 registered sex offenders in Park County, according to the Sheriff’s Office. And a new on-line tool can help you determine where they live so residents can take appropriate precautions before taking their children out on Halloween.
OffenderWatch® is a sex offender mapping and alerting service that aids citizens in avoiding the residences of sex offenders. Sheriff Scott Steward says that by going to their website at parkcountysheriff.net, you can click on the “Sex Offender Registry” link on the right-hand side of the page and navigate to the mapping feature, which will allow you to pinpoint the address of sex offenders in your neighborhood, as well as any addresses where you or your family spend time.
Steward adds that residents can sign up for email alerts that will let you know if an offender moves within a specified radius of any address you register in the program, be it a friend or relative’s house, a day care, or any other location where your children spend time. The alert service is free and confidential.
