One Dead in Thanksgiving Camper Fire

Written by on November 27, 2018

Police in Cody are investigating what could be a case of suicide by fire.
Just after midnight Friday morning, just after Thanksgiving, Cody Police responded to a report of a man threatening to kill himself and harm others on North Park Drive. According to Police Lieutenant Jason Stafford, the man refused to speak with the officers, and retreated into a camper on the property.

Due to the intensity of the fire, Stafford says officers were unable to enter the trailer to physically remove the man. The Cody Volunteer Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire, and it was then that officers and fire personnel located the suspect inside the camper. The suspect was pronounced dead at West Park Hospital.
Stafford points out that this incident is currently under investigation by the Cody Fire Department and the Cody Police Department. He said that because toxicology tests will be performed, it could take a week before more information is available. Police will release the name of the victim once all notifications have been made.
