Park Construction to Begin This Spring

Written by on March 20, 2018

No contracts have been signed yet for the construction project that will cause ongoing delays on the road between the East Entrance and Fishing Bridge for the next two years.
However, Yellowstone Superintendent Dan Wenk says that all bids are in, and the Park Service expects to award the construction contract sometime this week. The contract is to repair the road as well as replace the bridge at Pelican Creek and repair Fishing Bridge. He says construction should begin sometime this spring.
At a gathering of Cody Chamber members yesterday, Wenk said that the East Entrance will close for construction on October 15th, about three weeks earlier than it would normally close for the season.

Wenk clarified that during the summer months, the construction contract calls for no more than 20-minute delays for travelers on the East Entrance road.
And Wenk pointed out that despite the East Entrance closing early for construction, visitors will still be able to enter the Park from Cody through the Northeast Entrance until the park would normally close for the winter, in early November.
Wenk told Chamber members that during the construction project, Park concessionaire Xanterra will also be upgrading the Fishing Bridge RV park. Wenk says that repairs to that RV park haven’t been made since the 1960s, so the project will bring the park to where it is compatible with today’s recreational vehicles. However, that project will begin the Tuesday after Labor Day.
