Park County Gets Its First Snow Of The Winter Season

Parts of Park County got over 6 inches of snow as a weather system makes it’s way from the Pacific Northwest all the way across the state.
Meteorologist Don Day said it would be “the first winter storm of the season” as places at higher elevations like Wapiti and Yellowstone got significant snowfall. Cody was spared the white stuff, but had over a half-inch of rain accumulate, making downtown wet and soggy, filling up gullies and keeping gutters busy with runoff.
Wapiti resident Thomas Buckner documented the snow and it’s damaging effects at his home, maybe the first casualty of the season.

Nick Piazza, owner of Sleeping Giant Ski Area and Zip Line located just outside of Yellowstone National Park, was excited that the first snowfall had hit. Nick says he’s expecting to open the ski area on December 2nd, but that may change if Mother Nature dumps more snow in the coming weeks. For right now, Nick says they’ve opened more trails, “the most in 20 years,” and are set with new attractions like snow bikes and tube sledding.
As far as residents of Cody, the wet weather is tolerated, but some people are ready for snow to blanket the town. Don Day’s forecast says the winter storm will move out of the area by tonight and be replaced by partly cloudy skies into the weekend, but temperatures will remain chilly.
