Pirate-themed Wine Tasting Event Is A Huge Success

Saturday night was “all hands on deck, matey!” for the 49th annual Soroptimist International of Cody Wine Tasting party. With the theme being “Pirates of the Caribbean,” many wine-enthusiasts took advantage of the opportunity to dress up like pirates while tasting a variety of alcoholic beverages. Some even dressed up like Jack Sparrow (the main character made famous by Johnny Depp) in full swash-buckling regalia.
Over 300 people packed into the Cody Auditorium to take advantage of delicious spirits ranging from wine to ales to rum (fitting the pirate theme). There was also a silent auction with many different items from local businesses to bid on, and a raffle with unique prizes that the winners could choose from, including a chance to swim with sharks, admission to the Georgia Aquarium and a three night stay in Georgia, or $2,000 cash.
“Back at the Cody Auditorium, we hosted almost 300 local wine- and beer-tasting enthusiasts! With the addition of Pat’s Brew House, the only Wyoming female-owned brewery, and our walk-around food servers, everyone who attended were truly happy to be out and about after a long winter,” says Linda Tremelling, Public Awareness Chair for the Cody club.
The event raised an estimated $20,000, the proceeds of which will be used for programs supporting education for women and girls. According to their website, “Soroptimist was formed in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from the Latin, means best for women. Today, we have about 30,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. We are one of five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world.”
