Policy CKA Passes on Second Reading

The board of trustees for Park County School District 6 have voted to pass on second reading a policy that would allow teachers and staff members to carry concealed weapons.
Policy CKA now moves to the third and final reading, which is scheduled to take place on April 17th at the board’s next regular meeting.
The proposed policy has met with divided approval in the community, with a vocal minority speaking out against the policy, saying that it could endanger students and take the focus for teachers off the primary function of the school, which is to educate children.
However, a randomized survey of residents within Park County School District 6 last month showed an overwhelming majority approved the policy.
If the policy passes its third reading, Cody would become the second school district in the state to allow for armed personnel in schools, outside of the school resource officers.
