Rocky Mountain Dance Theatre’s 25th Anniversary of The Nutcracker Ballet Starts this Weekend

Rocky Mountain Dance Theatre’s 25th Anniversary full-length production of The Nutcracker Ballet set to Tchaikovsky’s famous score takes place Saturday, December 10th at 7 pm and Sunday, December 11th at 2 pm.

Choreography, sets, and lighting are all original, led by professionals in their field. Along with a large cast of performers from the local community and surrounding areas, RMDT is proud to announce the return of Randy Pacheco and Sasha Vincett for their 4th year as guest artists.

Soloists with Ballet Arizona, Sasha will perform the role of Arabian and Randy will perform as Cavalier. Dancing the Grand Pas with RMDT/RMSA is Kyla Cossaboon in her senior performance as Sugar Plum Fairy.

Kyla has been accepted into the Texas Ballet Theatre Company, where she will further her ballet training in January. Also returning are two RMSA/RMDT Alumni, Gracie Schmeiser appearing as Clare and Jessica McNeil as Drew Drop and Spanish.

As part of the celebration, this season RMDT will complete the dream of the new set designed by Casey Kearns that has “been in the works for the past 4 years.” This will finalize the vision of “Setting the Stage” for the next 25 years of Cody’s very own Nutcracker ballet. “Setting the Stage” campaign donations are still needed to fund this project and are “greatly appreciated,” RMDT says.

RMDT’s production of the Nutcracker brings the classic Nutcracker tale to life. The original 1892 two-act ballet is about a magical night at an enchanted Christmas Party where Clara is the guest of honor. After the party, the audience is witness to Clara’s vivid dreams about her Nutcracker who comes to her rescue and then brings her to a magical land of dancing snowflakes and sugar treats.

RMDT’s Nutcracker and other programs are only possible through grants, donations, and sponsorships.

In 2019, RMDT unveiled part of its very own brand-new design for the Nutcracker backdrops and scenery. Folks can become a permanent part of the Cody Nutcracker Legacy by purchasing a 12×12 square to one of RMDT’s new laser-cut Nutcracker Backdrops.
