School Board Candidates File for Four Seats
Written by Andrew-Rossi on September 4, 2018
Sixteen people have filed for four seats on the board for Park County School District 6, most of them filing at the last minute a week ago.
Of the sixteen, just one is a sitting trustee. William Streumke decided to file on the last day, putting his name on the ballot to retain his seat on the board. The other three seats that will open up have been filled to this point by Scott Weber, Kelly Simone and Lisa Constantine, who was appointed temporarily to fill the seat formerly held by Rebecca George, who resigned in the spring.
Former teacher Niki Tisthammer made the decision early to file for a seat on the school board. She says that as a teacher at Eastside Elementary for 23 years, her life has always been about the kids.
Conversely, candidate Denise Shirley had to deliberate for several days before ultimately deciding to put her name on the ballot. Shirley, who moved to Cody just a few years ago, has a child at Cody High School, and served on the school board in their previous district in Texas. Shirley has spent the last few months campaigning for the Republican nomination for House District 24, and when the primary election was over, Shirley says she had to think hard about whether or not she wanted to run for another elected office. But ultimately, she says her desire to serve won out.
All sixteen candidates will appear on the general election ballot on November 6th.
