School Is Back In Session – Drive Safely
Written by Andrew-Rossi on August 28, 2019
School is back in session, and law enforcement officials are asking drivers to be especially vigilant before and after school hours.
A release from the Park County Sheriff’s Department points out that afternoon hours are particularly dangerous because nationally, over the last decade, nearly one in four child pedestrian fatalities occurred between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Additionally, car crashes are the leading cause of death for teens in the United States, and nearly one in four fatal crashes involving teen drivers occur during the after-school hours of 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Park County Sheriff Scott Steward urges drivers to pay attention to school bus activity, slow down, come to a complete stop at intersections, eliminate distractions, and watch for bicycles.
