Secretary of State Enters Agreement Streamlining Receipt of Death Records to Prevent Voter Fraud

Written by on September 15, 2023

Chuck Gray, the Secretary of State for Wyoming, recently established a revised data sharing agreement with the Department of Health’s Vital Statistics Services that aims to speed up the process of removing deceased voters from Wyoming’s voter registry by reducing the time it takes to receive and process mortality records.

Previously, it could take up to four weeks for mortality records to be processed and received, causing a delay in updating voter registration information. However, with the new agreement, these records will now be processed and received in as little as 3-7 days. This means that the time period between a registered voter’s death and the entry of their death record into Wyoming’s voter registry system will be shortened by over 75%, improving the accuracy and efficiency of the state’s voter registry system.

“Upon taking office, our administration began a comprehensive review of Wyoming’s voter rolls to reduce the opportunity for fraud,” Secretary Gray said. “With respect to our office’s management and ingestion of death records, I am very proud of the work we have been able to accomplish and thankful to Vital Statistics Services for working with our office to address our concerns. Signing this agreement marks an important step toward improving Wyoming’s voter registration system, and I remain committed to continuing to work toward increasing transparency, security, and integrity in Wyoming’s elections.”
