UPDATE: Section of Beartooth Highway Closes Temporarily Due to Winter Weather

UPDATE (9/26/23): The entire Beartooth Highway between Red Lodge, Montana, and Yellowstone National Park’s Northeast Entrance near Cooke City/Silver Gate, Montana, is now OPEN. A section of the highway closed temporarily Friday due to winter weather conditions and remained closed throughout the weekend.
UPDATE (9/23/23 at 6:10 p.m.): US212 will remain closed until Monday, September 25, at the earliest. Road crews have encountered snow drifts up to 5 feet in height early this morning.
ORIGINAL: A portion of the Beartooth Highway has been closed temporarily due to winter weather.
On US-212 between Long Lake barricade, near Top of the World Store and the Montana/Wyoming state line has been closed. This is only a temporary closure caused by 4 inches of snow and ice on the roadway near the top of the highway.
The roadway will be reevaluated on Saturday, September 23 and will reopen once the conditions allow it to.
There is a Hazardous Weather Outlook till Saturday, September 23 as elevations as low as 7,000 feet are expected to receive snowfall.
