Sleep Better Tips!
Written by Terry Michael on April 12, 2021
When you wake up does it feel like you barely had any sleep? I’ve been searching for ways to get a better night’s sleep and ran across some great tips to try. Mom used to say drink a glass of warm milk, which tasted disgusting or go run around the outside of the house until you are worn out. Most of those old wives tales did not work but here are some tips from Men’s Health for a better night’s sleep:
Read – Boring is better
As school taught you, late-night reading can help you nod off. Just avoid screens; their light can suppress natural sleep hormones according to the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.
Let your sleeping dog lie
Having the dog in your bedroom on the floor, not licking your face, doesn’t disrupt shut-eye, your hound can provide a sense of comfort and security that may help you snooze reports Mayo Clinic Proceedings.
Make a do-it later list
The Journal of Experimental Psychology reports those who set tomorrow’s task to paper: Pre-bed to-do lists can earn you longer slumber. The more specific the list, the faster sleep sets in.
Drink up
A small study in older adults with insomnia published in the American Journal of Therapeutics found that the average sleep time among participants rose by 84 minutes on days they drank 16 ounces of tart cherry juice.
Decaffeinate yourself
The Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine says don’t be fooled decaf still contains some caffeine. Sub in a mug of chamomile to put a lid on caffeine-related tossing and turning.
Stop the leak
The Cleveland Clinic found the way to stem 2 am toilet trips is to skip late-night liquids and try compression socks. The socks prevent the fluid accumulation in your legs that can give you the urge to pee.
I will be trying some of these tips to see if they work or are they old wives’ tales as well!
