Smoke in Cody from Idaho and Montana

Written by on September 6, 2017

Extreme weather conditions have allowed wildfires in Montana, Oregon and California to grow out of control.
Currently 81 large fires have burned 1.4 million acres in nine western states – and for us here in the Big Horn Basin, that means smoke is in the air. Brandy Bourque with the National Weather Service Office in Riverton says that all the smoke is from Idaho and western Montana, and unfortunately, she says it’s not going away anytime soon.

Bourque advises people who have respiratory issues to restrict their activity outside, and if you have to go out, wear a mask or a handkerchief.
More than 27,000 firefighters and support personnel are assigned to wildland fires in the West, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
